Testing The Hype! - Bourjois - Magic Nail Polish Remover

Hullo ladies!

So a few weeks ago I picked up this Bourjois Magic Nail Polish Remover.

I was slightly outraged by the price for 75ml of product but caved as so many people where praising it.

So as soon as I got it home I tried it out and used it to take off my China Glaze For Audrey and took photos for a future review.

I was amazed, it all came off so quickly and what I liked also was the smell it left on my fingers afterwards.

It's a lovely sweet/fruity scent.

So for weeks I used it everyday and even included it in my May's Favourites!

Then this week I noticed that when using it, I was left with a yucky dark mess on my fingers. It was obviously the excess from all the old nail polish that had been soaking into the sponge.

A few days ago I bought Nails Inc's Edinburgh Gate which is a lovely full coverage glitter polish, the day after using it, I used the nail polish remover and something awful happened!

I stuck my nails in, pulled them out and my hands where a mess, I had glitter everywhere!

It took me ages to wash all that glitter off and after some time I decided to try it again but had the same outcome.

Maybe it was because I was using it everyday sometimes more than once, If your only using it once every five - seven days then this would probably be great for you.

"Yucky stuff that came out of the sponge and bottle :-("

Of course, being me I decided that I would simply wash the sponge and bottle and re-use it by pouring another type of nail polish remover into it.

What really got me in the end was when I tried cleaning the sponge all this disgusting "purple" liquid came out  . It looked like the water cup you used to use in art class when you paint in primary school. I was sticking my fingers in that!!!

It just didn't seem hygienic and was just a hassle in the end.

So It went in the bin.

My conclusion.

Great if you paint your nails once a week and don't mind spending the cash but just not worth it if you love painting your nails frequently and don't want to be buying another bottle every 3 - 4 weeks.

I think I'm going to be sticking to my cotton pads and Superdrug's own brand of nail polish remover.

Depressing, I know. After so many people loved it :-(

So have you tried this product? Love it? Hate it?

  1. I think the product is way over priced anyway and I completely agree about the hygiene. It wouldn't last me any time at all compared to regular nail polish remover.

    1. I was thinking that too but I didn't really use that many glitter polishes and it still turned out like this. I'm thinking of trying the tin foil method when using glitters :-)

  4. I always have issues with the hygiene factor with these kinds of products too. I don't have any issues with regular old cotton pads so I've never brought into the hype, and now I'm glad I didn't! I paint my nails a different design/colour practically every day so this would be no good at all! Thanks for the review :)

    1. It is a bit icky!

I didn't really think about the hygiene aspect when first buying it but after awhile it kinda got to me!

I'm the same, I'm sticking to the cotton pads and normal remover :-) No problem hun!

  5. I saw some other brand of that stuff and it seemed really weird! The sponge aspect I really like, but dipping my fingers into a used sponge gives me the heebie-jeebies. I do love that you reviewed it after you used it for a long time, I've read so many glowing reviews where the blogger only used it once!

  6. I completely agree with you, its very over priced for what it is! I'd much rather stick to cotton pads and pound shop nail polish remover, much cheaper, lasts longer and isn't as icky!
