My Foundation History

I've just read a great post written by Maeve from Thrift O'Clock !

It's A Make Up History 'Tag' where you just talk about certain products you've tried throughout the years. At the moment though I'm just going to be doing my Foundation history as its really the only part of my makeup history that I can remember what came first! I can't imagine trying to do my lipsticks....it would take  me forever!!

I'm sure we've all been through it, trying out foundation upon foundation trying to find that one that fits us. One that would fit me perfectly is something that would be light in colour and stay that way, wouldn't show my dry patches too much or make them worse and would also have a good medium to full coverage to help cover redness and blemishes.

15 years old -  At this point I wasn't really interested in makeup but I was going to gigs with friends and didn't want to be the odd one out so I asked my mam to take me to Superdrug and buy me some goodies. The foundation I picked up was the Maybeline Dream Matte Mousse.
It was a long time ago so I can't be totally sure on what colour I picked up but I can imagine it being ivory. I remembering it being very cakey on my and drying. Slightly orange toned too. In fact I think I only wore it twice before I gave up on it.

18 Years Old  - I didn't wear any makeup for a long time after that but not long after my eighteenth birthday I started to experiment with makeup and through the internet read lots of great reviews on the Rimmel 16 hour foundation. I bought it in store and although it wasn't a perfect match for me it was usable. That was until it started breaking me out. Not fun!

After having some problems with drugstore foundations I decided to treat myself to something a bit more high end. I went into Debenhams and started chatting to a Clinique MUA. I told her that I was looking for a foundation that helped with redness and she tried the Clinique Even Better foundation in Alabaster on me and I really liked it. It wasn't the exact colour match but with blending worked great. I used that foundation for a long time but was still trying to find a cheaper alternative.

19 Years Old -  Not long later I heard about a very pale foundation on some Youtube videos and decided to give it a try, It was the GOSH Exceptional Wear In Porcelain  Nearly a great match for me. Some days it would look great the overs it would make me look ill it was so pale. So I decided to try the next shade up and that was too dark. I mixed the two and used them until they where empty. I liked that they gave me good coverage and lasted a long time on my skin. What I didn't like is that they did show up my dry spots and make my look "flakey"  at the end of the day - Ewww.

Then in the Summer me and my family went on a holiday to Spain, in the Airport on the way home I was dying to pick up some High End makeup. I had heard so many great things about Estee Lauder Double Wear so that's the counter I went to first. I was approached buy a MUA and we swatched some colours and because I was slightly tanned at the time I choose a darker colour than I usually would, but in the winter I just add a lighter foundation and mix them to get a closer match whilst still keeping that full coverage. I love this foundation and hope to be using it for many years and hopefully be matched with my correct shade one day!

Not long after I decided to keep looking for a drugstore foundation I'd love, I came across the Maybelline Superstay 24 hour foundation. I picked the lightest shade they had and although it was slightly too yellow toned at first it worked fine. Then I noticed that after about 30 minutes on my skin it oxidizes badly. Making my look almost orange in colour! It also clung to my dry patches making them look flaky.

20 Years Old -   After hearing so much abut the famous Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealor I decided to try it out, when I got to the store I saw that they also did a foundation In the range - also called Lasting Perfection - and picked that up too. I got the lightest colour but when I got home it was too dark for me, I mixed it with a lighter foundation and wore it for a few weeks. It's definitely medium to full coverage. I've started to believe it was breaking me out though and have stopped using it. I suggest giving it a go though, If you need a fuller coverage and you can find your colour match. It may not do to you what It did to me.

My latest foundation purchase is one I'm very excited about, It's the Rimmel Match Perfection foundation in Light Porcelain. I've only been wearing it a few days so I can't tell you much or if it breaks me out like my other Rimmel foundation but what I can tell you is that It's my perfect colour match, It doesn't cling to any dry patches If i'm using my moisturizer and it covers my redness! I'll be reviewing it fully in a week or two so keep an eye out     :-)

So that's my foundation history/timeline there's no doubt a few I've missed but If I can't remember them they probably were not that interesting!

I loved writing this post and I hope someone gains something from it, whether it's to help buy a foundation or to stay away from one and remember that this is my personal view on these foundation but as we all have different skin types, may not be yours.

What's In My Makeup Bag

Hey Lovely Ladies,

I recently admitted to myself that I needed to start carrying a makeup bag in my handbag.

Last week I was rummaging in my new handbag and there must have been about twenty different lip products scattered around!

So Instead of buying a new one, I remembered one that I was given a few Christmas' ago from my lovely Gran. It was a No7 bag that at the time contained lots of lovely makeup samples.

I absolutely love the bag!

It's a gunmetal sequin bag that slightly changes colour with movement.

It took me ages but I managed to just put in what I really needed for when I go out, whether it's out shopping, to a meal or on a night out!

Lips

MAC Lipstick in Please Me - A gorgeous everyday pink for me, gives a lovely softness to any makeup look.

MAC Lipstick in Impassioned - Gorgeous for those days when I just want a pop of colour.

The Body Shop Strawberry Born Lippy Lip Balm - A great glossy lip balm that smells divine.

No7 Lip Liner in Plum - Love it under Please Me.

Eyes

Maybelline The Colossal Mascara - A great mascara, although I want to try the purple tube next time!

GOSH Velvet Touch Eyeliner in Black - My favourite eyeliner pencil, goes on so smooth and lasts for ages!

Too Faced Shadow Insurance Policy Palette - A great palette with a nice amount of eye shadows so you're not always wearing the same look.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance - Amazing primer, makes any eye shadow go on great and last all day.

ELF Blending Brush and Eye Shadow Brush - Great Brushes for the price.

Face and Cheeks

MUA Blush in Shade 4 - Gorgeous matte shade, looks lovely on the skin and just £1!

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer - A great concealer that I've loved for awhile now.

MAC 129SE Brush - I really like this brush as its great for applying face powder and blusher. Which means I can carry around less brushes.

That's what's in my makeup bag!

What's in yours?

Tiny Haul :-)

Hullo Lovely Readers!

I've recently picked up a few goodies that I would love to share with you.

I've been obsessed with Blushers, highlighters and Bronzers lately.

Well....one bronzer really and it's the Collection 2000 Shimmer Shade in Way To Glow.

I picked this up earlier in the week, I have heard a lot of great things about it from bloggers and even though I'm slightly petrified of bronzing I decided to give it a go.

This product does everything really, you can blush, bronze and highlight in just one swipe!

The four different shades are beautiful together and give a lovely glow.

I tried it on my Mam first as like I said...I'm a tad bit frightened of putting something as dark as this on my very pale skin *Don't worry, she was happy to be my guinea pig!*

It looked amazing on her so I gave it a go and must say I'm loving it already, will definitely be writing a review soon :-)

This is £4.19 on the Boot's website.

NYC Mosaic Color Wheel in Pink Cheek Glow

I've been wanting to try a MUA Mosaic Blusher for so long but my Superdrug has appallingly low stock  so when I saw this NYC Color Wheel I was so happy.

The range of colour is amazing, I haven't given it a good try yet but once I do I will let you know how I feel about it :-)

I'm not sure how much I paid for this as I lost the receipt :-(

This is the Clinique Long Last Glosswear in Air Kiss, It came free with this months Instyle magazine, you could choose between three other products but I picked this one, It looks gorgeous over a nude/pink lipstick :-) Quite sticky though.

So that's my tiny haul ;-)

Hope you have all had a great weekend!

August Faves!

Hullo Lovely Readers!

Makeup and Tools

I've been loving E.L.F blushers recently and I cant wait to get more of them! The three that I've been using a lot of is "Candid Coral" "Pink Passion" and "Gotta Glow" which is my favourite highlighter at the moment!

The Body Shop Mango and Peach Born Lippy Lip Balm...SMELLS AMAZING! I've had this for a long time now and its nearly running out so I'm going to have to pick up another one soon.

The Body Shop Eye Definer in Black. I picked this up for free in a magazine a few months ago, it came with a navy colour too. I would buy it again if it's on sale, it lasts a long time and I don't find it in weird places on my face at the end of the day :-)

From Collection 2000 I've been using the rather famous concealer and the Multiplier mascara. The concealer is really good and is on par with my MAC studio finish concealor and actually lasts slightly longer which is great. The Mascara is great too, amazing for a natural look, with no clumping.

E.L.F Studio Line Blush Brush, I think everyone should try this brush. Its amazing at picking up product and feels so soft. You can't beat the price. I'm waiting for another good discount code and then I'm gonna pick up a few more brushes from the Studio line :-)

Hair

I've been using this Andrew Barton "The Straight Answer" Hot Iron Protection spray for years now, Its a great spray although I'm careful with how much I use due to my naturally oily hair. Its smells amazing and gives my hair an amazing silky, soft feel.

Fragrance

This last month I've been using this Gwen Stefani Harajuku Lovers Wicked Style Perfume in LOVE. I think its a very unusual scent, its a sweet, fruity floral and has some lovely ingredients that make it very interesting. I will hopefully be doing a full review of this soon. I picked this up in Boots for just £9.99 about six months back but never used a lot of until recently.

Body

I've been trying to go through my Body Shop Body Butters lately as I'm worried they are going to go bad if I don't use some of them up soon, so I've been using this Papaya Body Butter most of the month. When I first bought it I wasn't fussed as I didn't like the scent straight from the tub but in fact I love it when its on my skin, so strange!

It's a very fruity scent that isn't too strong.

Favourite Read

"Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire"

I found this to be well written and I did fall slightly in love with Travis - the main character. It's what I call a "possessive romance" which is very popular at the moment. I'm writing a review for it right now. :-)

So that's all my monthly favourites, I'm sorry it's so late. You may know that I've been re-decorating my room so its been chaos around here this last week. It's practically done now! I'm thinking of posting a few pictures when I finish it :-)

Hope you have all been well!

New Makeup Haul

 Hullo Ladies!

I've really been needing to pick up a few makeup essentials this week so me and my mam popped down to Superdrug.

I wanted a new foundation as my GOSH one is running low and I wanted more mascara as I threw out most of my old ones.

I've been meaning to purchase some products from MUA for some time now but my store hasn't got much of a selection, I managed to pick up these lovely eye shadows and a black eyeliner.

I was really happy to see the great quality of these products, as soon as I came home I used them on my mam as she was going to a BBQ and she looked amazing.

The three eye shadows look gorgeous together as a smokey eye :-)

In my Superdrug at the moment everything on the Collection 2000 stand is £4 or less.

I've heard some great things about the Lasting Perfection Concealer so I picked it up and also picked up the lasting Perfection foundation.

The foundation is a bit too dark for me but I can work with it. I've tried it already and I love the coverage, though it may be too drying for my skin.

Then I picked up the Multiplier Mascara but its for my mam more than me as I have to keep an eye on her mascaras because she's rubbish at throwing them out after a few months...which really bugs me :-P

Now this mascara is for me! Yay!

I've been wanting to try a Bourjois Mascara for ages but the price always stopped me but at the moment some of the products are on a sale and this Volume Fast and Perfect Mascara was down to £5.99.

It's a rotating one which kind of freaked my mam out when I showed her....but oh well.

So that's my makeup haul, I couldn't wait to try everything on when I came home.

So have you tried this Bourjois Mascara? Love it or Hate it??

July Faves!

Hullo Lovely Ladies!!

It's the first of August today and like always I used a large range of products last month and I've chosen a few of the things that I've repeatedly reached for in my everyday routine.

Cosmetics, Body and Accessories.

  • Strawberry Body Butter  - The Body Shop  - Review
  • Satsuma Shimmer Lip Balm - The Body Shop
  • Cream Puff Lip Cream - Fairy Cake  - Collection 2000
  • GOSH - Eye Trio in Sense (Found in my Superdrug Clearance box for £3, really nice and pigmented)
  • Earring Set - New Look (I've been mixing and matching these, for £2 they were a good find!)

Nails

All Nails Inc Nail Polishes this month, basically because of the TSV set I bought recently :

  • Portobello
  • Porchester Square
  • Pudding Lane  -  NOTD

Fragrance

  • Love Ect...  - EDP - The Body Shop - Review

This is a gorgeous, sweet scent without being immature.

I'm starting to run out of it, so I'm looking out for a good voucher code to re-purchase it with :-)

Tools

I've been using the MAC 266SE eye liner brush a lot this month, I had it in a set last Christmas and I'm really liking it :-) It's tiny which means it would be great to take away in a travel bag!

Books

Books are something I haven't included before on my monthly favourites posts. Even though I read every day! I'm a total romance whore when it comes to books. These two are both re-reads, first up is:

J R Ward's Dark Lover, which is the first in the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series.

It's a series I have been following for a long time and wait impatiently for the next novel every year :-)

I'm planning on re-reading the whole series again!

This novel focuses on Wrath, the only pure blood vampire left on the planet and how he grants his friends last wish by bringing his half-breed daughter into the world of the undead....ohh but it's so much more than that!!

J R Ward writes probably the best dialogue I have ever read. It can go from being funny to heart warming then to just down right HOT in seconds. If you like your Paranormal romance novels then this is really worth the read...the whole series is as the books just get better and better...and I promise, there are no sparkly vampire boys in this. Just kick ass, tattoo sporting, hot ones!! :-)

Next is The Bride by Julie Garwood.

The total opposite to the J R Ward novel.

This is a historical romance set in Medieval Scotland, where Laird Alec Kincaid is told by his king to marry an English bride.

Julie Garwood is one of my favourite historical romance authors, when she talks about Scotland its like you're their.
The dialogue between the main characters is done very well and there is some very funny scenes between the sisters.

I always feel great satisfaction when finishing one of her novels because she writes true love so well, it's not sickly sweet and you can't tell what the plot line is from a mile away which is always a good thing :-)

Hope you are all having a great day :-)
